ZACC Cracks Down on Corruption: Seizes Luxury Cars Owned by Harare Town Clerk’s Wives

In a crackdown on corruption, the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has seized luxury vehicles belonging to the wives of the jailed Harare town clerk, Hosiah Chisango.

The move comes as part of the commission’s investigation into Chisango’s alleged involvement in a multimillion-dollar streetlights deal.

 Confiscated Vehicles and Targeted Property

Speaking to NewsDay, a source from ZACC confirmed that the commission has confiscated a Toyota Fortuner from Chisango’s third wife and a Mercedes-Benz from his fourth wife.

Additionally, ZACC is targeting a mansion under construction in the upscale Mt. Pleasant suburb, which is believed to have been funded by the proceeds of Chisango’s alleged corrupt activities.

It’s very true, we have taken a Toyota Fortuner vehicle from Chisango’s third wife and a Mercedes-Benz from his fourth wife. We are also targeting a Mt Pleasant mansion, which is currently under construction.

The Mt Pleasant house could simply be one of the best houses in the suburb, but we believe the money came from proceeds from HCC’s corrupt activities,” said the ZACC source.

Chisango’s Arrest and Allegations

Chisango was arrested last month for his involvement in a US$9.2 million streetlights deal.

He, along with four other council workers, is accused of awarding a contract to Juluka Endo Joint Venture, a company owned by businessman Moses Mpofu, who is also currently in prison.

The State alleges that Chisango and his co-accused violated standard bidding conditions by awarding the contract to Juluka Endo, which had previously been blacklisted after its sister company, Synlak (Pvt) Ltd, failed to deliver on a biogas digester tender in 2019.

Chisango was denied bail by the Harare Magistrates Court and is scheduled to return to court on August 22 as the investigation continues.

The former town clerk faces charges of criminal abuse of office.
