Mutsvangwa was apprehended at his residence in Mount Pleasant by detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department’s Commercial Crimes Division on Wednesday.

He was arrested on allegations of engaging in illegal foreign currency trading. Police acted swiftly after Mutsvangwa apparently advertised a black market exchange rate of 18.5 to the US dollar on his WhatsApp status.

Authorities have been intensifying their efforts to combat illegal money changers, and Mutsvangwa’s arrest is part of this ongoing crackdown. So far, law enforcement has apprehended over 100 individuals involved in illegal currency trading, with 65 of them being held in custody in Harare pending the completion of investigations and subsequent prosecution.

At the Harare Magistrates Court, Neville Mutsvangwa and his co-accused made their initial appearance. They will remain in custody throughout the weekend, with a bail hearing scheduled for Monday.
