The Zimbabwe Republic Police has confirmed that they will be investigating the matter involving a 19-year-old woman abused at the age of 14 by her uncle that came to light during the Tinashe Mugabe DNA Closure show. The uncle was seeking paternity clarification regarding a 5-year-old child of his niece.
The two people explained that the young woman had gone to watch football with her friends on the fateful day five years ago. The young people drank beer while watching the game and later returned home.
Details of the case that prompted an investigation
While she was sleeping, the uncle is said to have entered the lounge where the girl and her sister slept. He then forced himself on his niece and went on his merry way.
When the then 14-year-old reported the incident to other family members, they swept it under the rug. She then shared with her mother, who told her not to tell anyone and promised to tell the girl’s father, which was later revealed that she did not.
The girl then fell pregnant with her uncle and gave birth to a child. The mother married her young boyfriend when the baby was four months old. Years later, her husband shared with the wife’s family that the first baby was not his, and he had lived with his wife thinking that they knew.
Paternity of the child exposed
When questioned about the paternity of her first child, she shared yet again her ordeal under her uncle years ago. This prompted her family to go to the traditional leaders with their story. The DNA test was conducted as a way to prove if the child was her uncle’s.

Tinashe Mugabe’s Closure DNA show showed that the child was born between the niece and her uncle. A backlash from the social media community followed this. People cried for justice to be served for the young woman years later. Calls were made for the relatives who had swept the issue under the rag years earlier to be also arrested.
The ZRP has since released a formal statement stating that the case is now under investigation. They assured the public that the law will take its course.
