6 suspected CIT robbers killed in Germiston shootout with police

Gauteng police have shot and killed six suspected cash-in-transit robbers in Germiston.

On Saturday morning, police responded to a report of a robbery involving a G4S cash van in the Germiston CBD before they pounced on the suspects, who attempted to flee the scene.

A shootout ensued between police and the suspects, killing six and leaving one injured.

A bloody Victoria, Mayor, and President streets have been cordoned off to the public following Saturday morning’s dramatic scene.

Dozens of men and women in blue continue perusing the scene, with investigations underway.

So far, preliminary information suggests that the group of armed suspects had planned the robbery beforehand, however, their plans were quickly foiled following their reckless driving and suspicious behaviour.

At the same time, Gauteng Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni is expected to arrive at the scene to provide a detailed briefing of the ordeal.
