Bafana Bafana Secure Late Win Against South Sudan

Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo has lauded Thalente Mbatha and Relebohile Mofokeng for their impactful performances off the bench in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Sudan.

In a tense match where South Africa was tied 2-2 with the hosts, coach Hugo Broos made pivotal substitutions in the 72nd minute, bringing on Mbatha, Mofokeng, and Elias Mokwana. Mbatha scored a crucial late winner, while Khumalo was equally impressed with Mofokeng’s contribution.

“This was a challenging game, and at one point, it felt like we might not pull through,” Khumalo remarked on SABC1. “What made the difference was our composure and belief in our own abilities. We played to our strengths rather than allowing the opponents’ strengths to dictate the game.

“The introduction of players like Mokwana and Mofokeng changed the dynamics. This is how it should be—your bench should be capable of turning games around.

“Mofokeng’s role on the left was particularly effective since he is a natural winger. His presence was a game-changer.

“Of course, credit to Mbatha for scoring the decisive goal. It raises an interesting question—should we now consider relying more on players from Orlando Pirates, given their experience in competitive matches?”
