Eastern Cape court slaps serial rapist with two life terms

The Mthatha Regional Court in the Eastern Cape has sentenced serial rapist, Gugu Honono to two life terms for three counts of rape and robbery with aggravating circumstances. NPA regional spokesperson Luxolo Tyali says most of the victims of the 32-year-old rapist were schoolgirls boarding in private homes.

He says one of the victims refused to testify as she ‘did not want to open old wounds.

“The efficiency of the police DNA system has resulted in the sentencing of a serial rapist to two life terms and 25 years. The rapist who was on the run for more than eight years was nabbed after he was arrested for a shoplifting case in Komani. Afterwards he was linked to the rapes and was successfully prosecuted.
