Nafiz Modack’s lawyer vows to prove charges against his client are fabricated

Nafiz Modack’s lawyer Mohamed Sibda says he’ll prove that charges against his client are fabricated.

Modack and his 14 co-accused are back at the Western Cape High Court on Thursday, facing more than 100 criminal charges related to murder, extortion, money laundering, racketeering, and fraud.

Modack’s lawyer has been presenting his client’s version of events during cross-examination of the State’s main witness.

Hawks detective Edward du Plessis is back on the witness stand facing a number of questions from Nafiz Modack’s lawyer.

He is refuting the State’s version that Modack used Empire Investment Cars to launder money.

The company used to belong to Modack’s family before his brother sold it to one of the co-accused in the case.

However, Modack’s version suggests that he was only a car salesman at the company – after his brother sold it to Adiel Mukadam in 2019 and had no further involvement in its running.

The State, however, alleges that Mukadam was only put as the face of the company and that Modack was the one pulling strings in the background.

The trial continues.
