“New Menace In Town”: Uproar Over Three-Wheel Motor Tricycles Sprouting In Harare

Harare residents are fuming over three-wheel motor tricycles, which are spouting in the city and ferrying passengers.

The country has not had a stable transport system for years, and efforts to revive the Zimbabwe United Passengers Company (ZUPCO) for urban areas have come to nought  To travel within cities, commuters rely on commuter omnibus operators, mushikashika and private buses.

 

Three-Wheel Motor Tricycles In Harare: Yay Or Nay?

Lately, there has been an emergence of three-wheel motor tricycles, which are ferrying passengers on shorter routes. The emergence of these small vehicles has ruffled people on social media.

Social media blogger Malvern Mambanyu reported that one man got a tricycle, which he started using to transport people staying in Mabvuku and Tafara. Mambanyu added that the tricycle driver initially ferried people from Mabvuku and Tafara to Gazebo, a smaller and more local radius.

However, his little business gives him so much that he has two more tricycles. He now daringly transports people from Gazebo to Mbare. His tricycle can carry ten people.

Some people with tricycles also operate in Chitungwiza and Domboshava, according to reports.

The tricycles which are now transporting commuters have evoked reservations online.
