In a heartbreaking incident, the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) confirmed that a Zvishavane man was run over by a train.
Taking to its official X account on Monday, 30 June 2025, NRZ revealed that a man from Village 1, Zeederburg under Chief Mafala, was run over by a train. The man identified as Peter Vengesayi was allegedly lying on the tracks when the incident happened. The NRZ paid its condolences to the man’s family. The tragic announcement read:
“In yet another tragic incident today, a man died after being run over by a train near Zvishavane. Peter Vengesayi of Village 1, Zeederburg, under Chief Mafala, was lying on the tracks when the incident occurred. The NRZ extends its condolences to his family.”
Earlier that same day, NRZ reported a similar incident near Mutare, where a man was also run over by a train. However, in this case, the man was reportedly already dead when the train hit him. The victim had no identification, and police attended the scene. The announcement read:
“A man was run over by a train early this morning at Odzi Siding near Mutare. The man was lying lifeless on the tracks and did not respond to the approaching train’s sounding horn. The train crew suspect the man was already dead by the time he was run over. The man had no identity particulars on him, and the scene was attended by ZRP.”
The two incidents raised questions and concerns from social media users, who were eager for more details and called on the NRZ to share more positive updates about their operations instead of just tragic news. Some asked if the victims were conscious or alive at the time of the accidents, while others questioned the frequency of such reports.
