Operation Guta Ngarigare Rakachena: Harare CBD Vendors and Mushika-Shika Kombis Face Crackdown
The Zimbabwean law enforcement authorities have announced the launch of a joint operation, codenamed “Operation Guta Ngarigare Rakachena”, aimed at restoring order in Harare’s Central Business District (CBD). This move comes ahead of the upcoming SADC Summit at the new Parliament Building in Mt Hampden, Zimbabwe.
As part of the operation, police will be deployed in full force to tackle issues related to vending and Mushika-Shika kombis (unregistered taxis) in the CBD. The city is undergoing significant renovations, including road repairs, installation of streetlights, and enhanced sanitation efforts, in preparation for the regional summit.
The operation’s name, “Guta Ngarigare Rakachena”, roughly translates to “Keep the city clean”, indicating the authorities’ intention to maintain a tidy and organized urban environment.
