A video showing a Chinese national torturing Zimbabwean workers at Makanga Mine in Bindura has ignited widespread fury on social media.
The yet-to-be-identified Chinese manager was recorded on camera tying up local workers on a loader bucket and then raising them in the air.
Video Captures Shocking Abuse at Makanga Mine
In the video, which was shared by New Zimbabwe.com, the Zimbabwean workers can be seen tied and hung on the front loader as their colleagues watched helplessly.
The Chinese national reportedly whipped the workers in front of their workmates, who did not intervene. The alleged reason for this brutal treatment was the suspicion that the workers had stolen an unspecified amount of diesel.

Social Media Erupts in Fury Over Viral Video
The video, which has gone viral, has sparked significant outrage among Zimbabweans. Many have condemned the mistreatment and exploitation of local workers by foreign investors, particularly Chinese nationals.
Netizens argued that it was totally unacceptable that Zimbabweans are being abused in their own country. Zimbos also castigated the other workers, who stood by and watched as the Chinese national assaulted the other workers.
Others demanded immediate justice for the workers and called for the Chinese national’s arrest.

ZMF Condemns Inhumane Treatment of Workers by Chinese National
Meanwhile, in a statement, the Zimbabwe Miners Federation (ZMF) has strongly condemned the incident, describing it as inhumane and savage.
“This barbaric act is a blatant violation of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, which guarantees the right to personal security and freedom from torture or cruel, inhumane or degrading treatment or punishment,” reads part of the statement.
The ZMF demanded immediate action against the Chinese national responsible for the abuse. They called for his arrest and prosecution, as well as a thorough investigation into the labour practices at Makanga Mine.
“We will not stand idly while our members are subjected to such egregious abuse. ZMF vehemently condemns this despicable act and demands immediate arrest and prosecution of the Chinese boss responsible, thorough investigation into the mine’s labour practices and swift action against any violations.”
