Western Cape police say specialized units have been deployed to Mitchells Plain and other areas on the Cape Flats to curb ongoing gang violence.
This follows the killing of former Americans gang leader Mogamat Sadeka Madatt in Mitchells Plain last week.
Some residents in the area fear a gang war could follow Madatt’s murder.
But police said the specialized units would remain in the area until gang violence subsides.
“Additional police personnel from specialized units have been deployed in high crime-contributing precincts for some time already and will remain in the area until gang violence has been quelled. One of the identified areas is Mitchells Plain,” said police spokesperson Malcolm Pojie.
