Sengezo Tshabangu Falls Sick in Switzerland, Taken to ICU After Suspected Food Poisoning

A section of Zimbabweans are celebrating news that self-imposed Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) Secretary General Sengezo Tshabangu fell sick during his recent trip to Switzerland. Tshabangu, who was in the European country for the 149th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly, reportedly ended up in the intensive care unit (ICU) at a Swiss hospital after falling ill.

Tshabangu had travelled to attend the IPU Assembly, which ran from October 12th to 17th, 2024, and serves on the Standing Committee on Sustainable Development Goals. However, his participation was cut short when he was hospitalized shortly after he arrived in Switzerland.

How Sengezo Tshabangu Ended up Being Hospitalised in Switzerland

A source close to Tshabangu revealed that he was fine throughout the flight but started complaining of severe stomach pains when the plane landed. The illness, which was suspected to be food poisoning, escalated quickly.

“He was okay throughout the flight. The illness was sudden. Thanks to the efficient health system in this country, the situation was bad,” the source said.

The source also confirmed that Tshabangu never had a chance to attend the assembly, as his health deteriorated so much that he was admitted to the ICU at one point.

“He really never got the opportunity to attend the event. He was even admitted in the intensive care unit at one point because the situation was bad,” the source added.

Tshabangu Confirms Sickness and Gives Update

When contacted by The Standard for a comment, Sengezo Tshabangu did not deny that he had fallen sick during his recent trip to Switzerland. He said that he was feeling better and referred further questions to his personal assistant Nqobizitha Mlilo who confirmed Tshabangu’s illness, stating,

“Senator Tshabangu is recovering well. Every now and then people get sick; it’s a normal part of life. Infact, he has returned to the normal discharge of his duties.”
