Senzo Meyiwa trial: New State witness to take the stand

A new witness will take the stand in the Senzo Meyiwa trial on Monday morning as the State’s case nears its close.

The State is expected to continue leading ballistic evidence.

Last week, ballistics expert Lieutenant Colonel Chris Mangena finished his time on the witness stand.

Over a year since Mangena first took the stand, he finally completed his testimony on Friday.

At the heart of his evidence is whether the bullet found at the scene of Meyiwa’s murder can be positively linked with a gun belonging to one of the accused, Mthobisi Mncube.

While Mangena is certain it was Mncube’s gun that fired the shot that claimed Meyiwa’s life, the defence’s ballistic expert has disputed this, saying at best the results are inconclusive.

The defence will bring its own expert to testify, but first, the court has called for Mangena’s colleagues, who corroborated his findings, to take the stand.

On Monday, State Advocate George Baloyi will call their next witness.
