WATCH: Mai Jeremaya Opens Up About Losing Virginity and Relationship Lessons

Popular socialite Mai Jeremaya, whose real name is Ashley Masendeke, got candid during an in-depth interview with DJ Ollah on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, sharing personal stories about her early love life and the challenges of becoming a mother at a young age.

Reflecting on her university days, she revealed that she lost her virginity during her first year at Midlands State University (MSU). Surprisingly, she said neither she nor her partner realized it had happened at the time. It took several attempts, and months later, for her to understand what had actually occurred.

“I was in first year, second semester. I don’t think I should mention the guy, but we both didn’t know it happened. It was difficult to know. Ndakatozoziva kuti virgnity yangu yazobrekeka after months and months of trying,” she said.

That relationship only lasted two semesters, and she eventually got back together with her ex-boyfriend, who was also in her class. She added that she has always preferred dating people her age.

After that, life moved quickly. By the age of 21, she became a mother with the same classmate she had rekindled things with. But while the relationship started out full of passion and youthful dreams, reality hit hard when she entered the working world.

She described how things began to shift once she got a job at BancABC after completing her third-year industrial attachment. With a steady income, her lifestyle expectations grew, but her partner struggled to keep up.

“After school, this ex became my first baby daddy. Wanga utori musikanzwa, rebellion chaiyo. We thought we were so in love. We thought our future would be so amazing. I think I grew up because I got a job soon after. So I was now this working girl, and I wanted so many things he wasn’t ready to provide me. I wanted to move out for starters. We were staying at his grandmother’s house in Chitown, so I wanted my lifestyle to match my job. Then I didn’t know kuti it’s important to insist, what I provide is what I provide,” Mai Jeremaya said.

Looking back, she admitted that while the love felt real at the time, her youthful decisions came with heavy consequences. When asked if she had any regrets, her response was honest.

“I regret making decisions of making babies at that very young age because isu ndisu generation ye Westlife,” she said.
