Tensions Rise as Dynamos Football Club Players Strike Over Unpaid Bonuses

Dynamos Football Club players have reportedly boycotted training for the second day in a row over unpaid winning bonuses and sign-on fees.

This unexpected strike has placed a cloud over the team’s preparations for their highly anticipated Chibuku Super Cup semi-final clash against Manica Diamonds, scheduled for Sunday at Rufaro Stadium.

Reports indicate that Dynamos chairman Moses Maunganidze attempted to address the players at the training grounds on Thursday, but the players rejected his intervention, insisting that they would only return once their dues were settled.

Players Dismiss Promises of End-of-Season Payments

The club had proposed to settle the outstanding bonuses in a lump sum at the season’s end.

However, the players expressed dissatisfaction with this arrangement, particularly as several contracts are set to expire before the season concludes. Without guarantees, many players worry they may not receive the full amount owed to them.

Maunganidze Expresses Hope for Resolution

Speaking to The Herald on Thursday evening, Maunganidze expressed optimism that the situation would be resolved swiftly to allow the players to resume training and focus on Sunday’s match. He explained that funds had been secured and were currently being processed.

Unfortunately, the players have decided to down their tools at a time when we thought all was well given we agreed to pay their winning bonuses at once for the second half of the season,” Maunganidze stated.

Chairman Moses Maunganidze expressed the club’s limited options amidst the players’ boycott, explaining that their refusal to train has left management with little recourse.

“But there is nothing much that we can do because they are not training, and all we can do is pay them the outstanding bonuses.”

He emphasized that efforts were underway to clear the payments as soon as possible, ideally by the end of the week.

“I hope that by tomorrow we will be able to pay all that we owe them. Even those players whose contracts were running out at the end of last year, we paid them, so I do not see any reason why those with contracts running out at the end of this term are panicking.”
