Neighbours of the four suspected criminals shot and killed by police in Kwaximba, in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) say there was nothing suspicious about the group.
In the early hours of Wednesday morning, police shot and killed the suspected gang in a shoot-out.
Three firearms were recovered from the scene and police believe there are more guns to be recovered.
The publication spoke to some of the neighbours.
Some of the neighbours, who asked not be recorded, said they watched from a distance as police combed through the scene of a shootout with the suspected cash-in-transit heist robbers.
Recalling the incident, they told the publication they were woken up by loud bangs of the gunfire.
When asked about the men who have been killed, the neighbours described them as kind people who were just construction workers.
They said they had never seen them armed or behaving in a suspicious manner which would suggest that they could be criminals.
There was visible shock and a glimpse of sadness as they heard that the suspected gang had been killed.
Police say they are looking for more suspects linked to the suspected robbers.
