Deadly Rivalry: Two Teenagers Kill Man Over a Thigh Vendor

In a shocking incident, two teenagers in Harare are up for murder after killing a 33-year-old man during a violent altercation over a commercial thigh vendor.

Deadly Confrontation

According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the two boys, aged 16 and 17, attacked and killed Nelson Chiripanyanga, after an argument “over a lady of the night.”

The teenagers reportedly ganged up on Chiripanyanga and assaulted him with fists and a sharp object.

ZRP spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the tragic event in a statement shared on X, (formerly Twitter), saying;

“Police in Southlea Park are investigating a case of murder in which two male juveniles, aged 17 and 16, attacked to death the victim, Nelson Chiripanyanga (33) with fists and an unknown sharp object after an argument over a lady of the night.”

The incident marks the latest in a string of violent altercations that have broken out over the attentions of commercial thigh vendors in Zimbabwe.

Tragic Precedent

This is not the first time that a fight over a “lady of the night” has ended in tragedy.

In January 2024, a 24-year-old man named Farai Mapuranga was killed by rival suitors in Mberengwa after a “misunderstanding over a thigh vendor at Beauty Mine Cocktail Bar Booking houses.”

As Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko explained:

“It is alleged Farai Mapuranga (24) had an altercation with another man, Simbarashe Chirume (21) over a lady of the night.”

The confrontation escalated when Chirume physically attacked Mapuranga, and another man, identified only as Elliot, struck Mapuranga twice in the head with a stone. Chirume then proceeded to stab Mapuranga twice with an okapi knife before fleeing the scene.

Tragically, Mapuranga collapsed and died after walking just 80 meters. Chirume was later arrested by police.
