Ugandan National In Jail After Being Caught With Lula Lula Toys In Masvingo

A Ugandan national was arrested after he was caught carrying several lula lula toys and assortments in Masvingo.

Twenty-four-year-old Tom Ssekamwa appeared at the Masvingo Magistrates Court following his arrest. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) revealed that Ssekamwa is facing charges of contravening the Censorship and Entertainment Control Act or criminal nuisance.

The NPA disclosed that the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) received an anonymous tip-off on Thursday, 1 August 2024, that the accused had lula lula toys at Backpackers Rest Budget Accommodation in Masvingo:

“It is the State’s case that on August 1st, 2024, the police received a tip-off that the accused person was in possession of s_x toys at Backpackers Rest Budget Accommodation in Masvingo. The police acted on the tip-off, proceeded to the said place, and conducted a search, which allegedly led to the discovery of s_x toys and a lubricant for men from the accused person’s bag. The accused person was arrested.

Ssekamwa is appearing at the Masvingo Magistrates Court for his bail ruling today.

Possessing or selling adult toys is illegal under Zimbabwe’s censorship and entertainment control law. In 2022, one popular social media character got in trouble for blatantly peddling and dealing with adult toys.

Ayanda Unity Mponda was arrested and tried for allegedly selling lula lula toys. A Harare magistrate sentenced her to 24 months in jail, with six months suspended, provided she avoids similar offences for five years. The remaining 16 months were suspended on the condition that she does community service.

Ayanda used to advertise her lula lula wares on her social media accounts. She was found guilty of breaching the Custom and Excise Act and exposing children to explicit material.

In 2016, Stephanie, the daughter of Zimbabwean mogul Phillip Chiyangwa, returned from the UK and sold lula lula toys. She was arrested but not prosecuted.
