Wicknell Chivayo Mocks Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu As He Speaks On Their Arrests

Flamboyant businessman Wicknell Chivayo publicly mocks his former associates Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu. Chivayo’s outburst came as he sought to dispel rumours that he was behind their arrests on multiple corruption and fraud charges.

The Arrests and the ZEC Tender Scandal

Chimombe and Mpofu were coincidentally arrested after voice notes of Chivayo discussing a US$100 million Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) tender deal. The fallout between the three reportedly stemmed from disagreements over payments, leading to the leaking of the voice notes.

While Chimombe and Mpofu were not arrested for the Zec scandal, they were picked up and detained for the US$7.7 million presidential goats scheme and the US$9.2 million street lights tender.

Chimombe and Mpofu Arrested as Punishment

A government official, speaking anonymously to TheNewsHawks, suggested that Chimombe and Mpofu’s repeated denial of bail might not be due to the strength of the cases against them. Instead, it could be seen as punishment for their lack of discretion while “eating with VIPs at the high table.”.

“If they had not fought Chivayo, those cases were not going to see the light of the day. That’s where the real issue is. They are being punished for their role in exposing Chivayo and inadvertently senior government officials in this massive corruption scandal,” the government official said.

Wicknell Chivayo Speaks On His Role in Chimombe and Mpofu’s Arrests

Chivayo responded to the accusations on X (formerly Twitter), where he adamantly denied involvement in Chimombe and Mpofu’s arrests. He also refuted claims that the two were ever his business partners, dismissively saying that one served him tea while the other polished his shoes.

“Ini ndini ndadii ??? Pavaiba mbudzi dze nyika and participated in street light tenders I wasn’t there. These two incompetent idiots were never my business partners though I can confirm one was my tea boy and the other was my shoe polisher. @NewsHawksLive please be guided accordingly,” Chivayo responded.

Zimbos Warn Chivayo as He Mocks Chimombe and Mpofu

In response to Chivayo’s remarks, many Zimbabweans took to social media to warn him about the dangers of arrogance. Some also questioned him about the status of the Gwanda Solar Project. Here are a few reactions:
