Need A Duplicate Registration Book In Zimbabwe? Here’s What To Do
If you’ve lost, damaged, or misplaced your vehicle registration book in Zimbabwe, the Ministry of Transport has now clearly outlined how you can get a replacement. In a public service announcement shared via X on 8 July 2025, the Ministry explained the updated process for obtaining a Duplicate Registration Book (DRB) — including documents required, the fee, and steps to follow.
What is a Duplicate Registration Book and who needs it?
A Duplicate Registration Book (DRB) is an official replacement of the original vehicle registration document, issued when the original has been lost, stolen, or damaged. Without it, motorists cannot legally prove ownership, renew licences, or sell the vehicle.
According to the Ministry:

Here are the requirements and the fees!”

Step-by-step process to apply for a DRB
To apply for a DRB, you must go to the Central Vehicle Registry (CVR) or any approved satellite office. The Ministry lists the following as mandatory:
-
USD $15 (ZAR 270) fee – payable in cash or using official electronic methods where available.
-
A completed CVR 4 Form – this is the formal application form and can be obtained at the CVR office.
-
A clear copy of the vehicle owner’s National ID.
-
A Police Report – only needed if the book was lost or stolen.
This means that if the book is torn or damaged but still present, you may not need a police report.
Can someone else apply on your behalf?
Yes. The Ministry allows you to send a representative, but you must provide extra documents:
-
A signed affidavit from the vehicle owner giving the representative permission to act on their behalf.
-
The original and a copy of the representative’s National ID.
This is meant to prevent fraud and impersonation during the application process.
What if the vehicle was sold?
If you’re applying for a DRB after buying a vehicle through an agreement of sale, you must follow additional steps:
-
The duplicate book must be crossed and clearly marked “SOLD” once printed.
-
You should also indicate that this DRB is being issued under an agreement of sale.
This helps protect both the buyer and seller and ensures the vehicle is not fraudulently re-registered elsewhere.
“For Duplicate Registration Book WITH Agreement of Sale: Crossed ‘DRB’.
After printing, the book must be crossed and marked ‘SOLD’.”
– Ministry of Transport directive
What about company-owned vehicles?
If the vehicle is registered under a company name, the process is slightly different.
You must submit:
-
A signed letter of authorisation printed on the company’s official letterhead.
-
The letter must be signed by a Transport Officer or Director of the company.
-
All other documents — including the completed CVR 4 Form and copies of ID — must still be submitted.
“Company-owned vehicles must have approval from a Transport Officer or Director on company letterhead.”
– Ministry of Transport statement
Where to send or submit your documents
While most DRB applications are done in person, the Ministry also allows email correspondence for certain queries. The following addresses were provided:
These are mainly used for communication and clarification. All original documents and affidavits must still be submitted physically.
