30 Bulawayo hairdressers have each been given US$200 through a transformative Presidential fund initiative designed to strengthen small businesses in the personal care industry.
This financial injection forms part of a broader US$6,000 support package distributed through the Presidential Disbursement Fund.

The funding falls under the Hairdressers for Economic Development (Hairdressers4ED) program, a Zanu-PF-supported project that aligns with President Mnangagwa’s inclusive development agenda. The initiative embodies the national “leave no one behind” philosophy as Zimbabwe progresses toward its Vision 2030 economic goals.

An additional US$4,000 has been allocated for purchasing professional hairdressing tools and products, extending the program’s benefits to practitioners who didn’t qualify for direct cash assistance. This strategic approach ensures broader industry impact and long-term sustainability.
Transformative Impact on Local Businesses
Recipients have welcomed the support as a crucial lifeline for their struggling enterprises. Sithabile Zimba, a Mahatshula-based salon owner, described how the funding arrived during her most challenging period:
“After being forced to close my shop temporarily due to financial constraints, this support gives me hope to rebuild. Even my alternative wig-selling business required capital I simply didn’t have.”
Sustainable Growth for the Beauty Industry
Keresia Dagwaira, National Chairperson of Hairdressers4ED, emphasised the revolving nature of the fund:
“Beneficiaries have a two-month repayment window to ensure continuous support reaches more practitioners. We’re fostering innovation, employment opportunities, and sector-wide professional standards.”

Dagwaira offered encouragement to those awaiting assistance:
“Today’s recipients represent just the beginning. Your dedication hasn’t gone unnoticed, and further support initiatives are in development.”
This strategic intervention not only empowers individual entrepreneurs but also stimulates community-level economic activity, particularly in historically underserved urban areas. By investing in Zimbabwe’s vibrant beauty sector, the program contributes to the nation’s broader socioeconomic transformation.
