5-year-old boy dies after being shot in the head in KZN! A devastating incident unfolded in Zwelisha, KwaZulu-Natal, when a five-year-old boy, Jerimiah Xolo, was fatally shot in a drive-by shooting.

This tragic event has left the community in shock and mourning as police begin investigating the circumstances surrounding the young boy’s death.

Immediate Response from Local Security

The incident was quickly reported to Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), a private security company whose control room received numerous calls from concerned residents in the area.

Rusa’s director, Prem Balram, provided details on the scene response, explaining that callers reported seeing a child shot in the head and lying unresponsive. Upon arrival, Rusa medics found the young boy with a gunshot wound to the head. Unfortunately, he was declared deceased at the scene.

“Callers reported that a child was shot in the head and was unresponsive,” Balram explained. “Upon arrival, medics found that the child had sustained a single gunshot wound to the head and was declared deceased on the scene.”

Details from the Victim’s Family

Jerimiah’s father spoke to Rusa officers, sharing that his wife and son had been standing near a local tuckshop when a white car sped by. Moments later, his wife witnessed her son fall to the ground, bleeding profusely from a head wound.

She later added that she suspected a silencer may have been used in the shooting, as no loud gunshots were heard at the scene. The chilling nature of this incident, in which witnesses reported seeing Jerimiah collapse but hearing no gunshots, has left the community disturbed.

Balram confirmed, “The mother noticed the child fall to the ground and bleeding profusely from the head. She believed that a silencer was used on the weapon.” Some bystanders close to the scene reported a similar experience, noting that they did not hear gunshots, only noticing the child fall.

A Community on Edge

The tragic loss of young Jerimiah adds to a string of recent violent incidents in the area, including multiple shootings over the past week. Balram revealed that his officers have responded to four shooting incidents in recent days, underscoring the escalation of gun violence in the community.

One of these incidents involved a woman in Phoenix who was shot and killed while waiting for transportation to work. The woman was robbed and then shot multiple times, underscoring the concerning rise in violent crimes affecting innocent people.

Police Investigation Underway

As police begin piecing together the events leading to Jerimiah’s death, local authorities urge anyone with information to come forward. The case has heightened awareness of the dangers of drive-by shootings in the area, leaving both residents and law enforcement on high alert.

Police are exploring the possibility that a silencer was used and are working to trace the white vehicle seen during the incident. The investigation will be crucial in identifying the perpetrators and bringing justice to Jerimiah’s grieving family.

A Call for Safety in the Community

This tragedy is a stark reminder of the importance of community safety, especially in residential areas where families and children should feel secure.

Community members are calling for strengthened security measures and vigilance against gun violence to prevent future tragedies. The loss of Jerimiah has left an indelible mark on Zwelisha, uniting residents in a shared call for action against the violence impacting their lives.

Seeking Justice and Healing

The senseless death of five-year-old Jerimiah has sparked a deep sense of grief and calls for accountability. As his family and community members mourn his loss, they hope for a swift investigation and meaningful action to prevent further violence.
