Notorious Burglar Nabbed in Zvishavane After 7 Break-Ins Across Two Towns

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has arrested a 24-year-old man linked to a string of break-ins and thefts across Chiredzi and Zvishavane.

In a statement posted on Friday, 11 July 2025, ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that Jabulani Gumbo was taken into custody following several reports of unlawful entry into homes and businesses.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms the arrest of Jabulani Gumbo (24) in connection with a spate of unlawful entry into premises and theft cases which occurred between July 2024 and 2 July 2025 in Chiredzi and Zvishavane,” Paul Nyathi said.

Investigators say Gumbo is now connected to seven different cases of unlawful entry and theft, including a robbery at a shop in Mudereki Village on 25 May 2025, where groceries were stolen.

In another bizarre case, Gumbo allegedly stole a motorbike from inside a bedroom at a house in Section 10, Hippo Valley Estate, Chiredzi. That bike was later found stashed in the Madzivadondo Area, Zvishavane.

“The suspect is clearing seven cases of unlawful entry into premises and theft including the one which occurred at a shop at Mudereri Village, Zvishavane on 25th May 2025 where grocery was stolen and another case of unlawful entry and theft which occurred on 1 May 2025 at Section 10, Hippo Valley Estate, Chiredzl where a motorbike which was in a bedroom was stolen. The motorbike was recovered at Madzivadondo Area, Zvishavane,” Nyathi explained.

Nyathi thanked community members who came forward with information, saying their cooperation was vital in tracking down the suspect.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police applauds the public for providing information which led to the arrest of the suspect,” Nyathi said.
