Role Purpose

Reporting to the Country Director of the hosting country, the Head of IT – Southern Africa will provide visionary leadership and strategic oversight for the ICT functions across Plan International’s offices in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, and Mozambique.

The successful candidate will ensure the delivery of robust, secure, and innovative IT systems aligned with Plan International’s mission and organizational goals. This role will lead the development of region-wide IT initiatives, enhance operational excellence, and ensure value for money in IT investments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic IT leadership and governance across the region.

  • Champion value for money and ROI-focused technology solutions.

  • Oversee IT service management, ensuring operational excellence.

  • Foster a customer-centric IT culture responsive to programmatic and operational needs.

  • Drive implementation of a shared services model to streamline regional operations.

  • Establish a knowledge-sharing hub to promote replicability and innovation.

  • Build IT capacity across countries through training, mentorship, and leadership development.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or related field.

  • At least 7 years’ professional experience in ICT, including 3 years in a managerial role.

  • Relevant professional certifications and management training are an added advantage.

Technical and Professional Skills:

  • Strong technical background in IT infrastructure and applications.

  • Proven experience with Microsoft Windows, SQL Server, Exchange Server, and communication technologies.

  • Proficiency in database administration and ICT innovation for development.

  • Project management expertise with a track record of delivering complex IT projects.

  • Ability to align IT strategies with organizational objectives and development outcomes.

Leadership and Communication:

  • Exceptional interpersonal and team-building skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams and foster a high-performance culture.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English; proficiency in Portuguese is an added advantage.

  • Strong cultural awareness with the ability to work in diverse international environments.

  • Financial acumen with the ability to interpret and manage IT-related budgets.
