Shouting Success: Little Girl Rewarded By President Mnangagwa At ZITF
It was just a cheerful shout from a little girl, but it lit up the day and earned her a cool US$100 from President Mnangagwa at this year’s Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF).
Seven-year-old Tinashe Tsekiso Mutemi was among the excited crowds when she shouted, “President Mnangagwa!” as the Head of State and his Mozambican counterpart, President Daniel Chapo, were touring stands.
The spontaneous outburst caught the attention of President Mnangagwa, who immediately stopped in his tracks and smiled.
“Who said that?” he asked playfully, scanning the crowd.
Tinashe, standing proudly beside her sister, waved enthusiastically. The President walked over, greeted her warmly, and reached into his jacket pocket, handing her a crisp US$100 note.
The touching moment, captured by many fairgoers on their phones, drew loud cheers and applause from the crowd.
A simple shout that changed her day
Tinashe could hardly contain her excitement afterwards. Speaking to The Chronicle, she said:
“I was so happy to see the President in real life for the first time. I shouted his name hoping he would notice me, and he did! When he gave me the money, I was surprised and happy. This will help my family. I will never forget this day.”
Her 13-year-old sister, Kemuso, revealed that she initially tried to hold Tinashe back, fearing the security presence.
“I tried to hold her back when she shouted, thinking it wasn’t safe with all the security around. But she kept going. We never expected the President to stop, let alone walk over and give her money. It was such a kind gesture; it touched my heart,” she said.
A moment captured forever
Pictures of Tinashe proudly displaying her US$100 gift circulated widely on social media, showing her beaming from ear to ear.
One fairgoer who witnessed the moment said:
“It’s not every day you see a President stop to personally acknowledge a little child. It was beautiful to see.”
The Zimbabwe International Trade Fair, held in Bulawayo, attracted thousands of visitors and exhibitors this year, and this simple but unforgettable exchange became one of its most talked-about highlights.
