Police to Take Criminal and Disciplinary Action Against Constable Sakala After High-Speed Chase Kills Two in Gweru Accident
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has announced that criminal and disciplinary action will be taken against Constable Sakala of ZRP Mkoba.
This comes after his conduct during a high-speed chase on 28 April 2025 led to a fatal car accident along Bristol Road in Gweru.

Tragic Crash Along Bristol Road Claims Two Lives
The police has confirmed that it is investigating a fatal road traffic accident that occurred along Bristol Road in Gweru on Sunday night, 28 April 2025, at approximately 10:30 PM.

According to the police, the accident involved a Toyota Aqua vehicle that crashed into a tree during a high-speed chase involving Constable Sakala of ZRP Mkoba. Both occupants of the vehicle died on the spot.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that investigations are being conducted in connection with a fatal road traffic accident which occurred along Bristol road on 28th April 2025 at around 2230 hours where two Toyota Aqua occupants died on the spot when their vehicle hit a tree in a speed chase with Constable Sakala of ZRP Mkoba.”
Officer Fled the Scene After Deadly Crash
Eyewitness reports and videos circulating on social media suggest that Constable Sakala fled the scene immediately after the crash, prompting widespread public outrage. The ZRP has acknowledged these reports and the circulating footage.
Police Promises Accountability
In an official statement, the police emphasized that both criminal and disciplinary proceedings will be instituted against Constable Sakala for his role in the incident.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police reiterates that both criminal and disciplinary action will be taken on Constable Sakala for his conduct.”
Condolences Extended to Families
The police have extended “profound and deepest condolences” to the families of the deceased victims. They also indicated that further details regarding the investigation will be shared in due course.
“Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Republic Police expresses profound and deepest condolences to the families of the victims.
