South Africans are crying foul and calling for NPA officials to step down after Timothy Omotoso walks free again.
Due to technical issues, this public outcry came after the NPA released Nigerian TV evangelist Timothy Omotoso.
Omotoso was arrested on the 10th of May by the police after he was named an illegal resident of South Africa. This came weeks after the evangelist was cleared of violation charges towards several women.
NPA accused of technicality that freed Timothy Omotoso
The Televangelist was released yesterday, on the 13th of May, due to a mistake in the Department of Home Affairs procedures.

South African law states that people arrested and waiting for deportation must appear in court within 48 hours of their arrest. For Omotoso, who was arrested on the 10th, the deadline was supposed to be at 7 a.m. on Monday.

The evangelist was brought to appear in court 7 hours after the deadline expired. Omotoso’s lawyers got him released on that technicality, and the NPA had to comply with the law. The NPA confirmed the release and cited that the department failed to comply with the law.
South Africans Blame NPA for Omotoso’s Freedom
Many South Africans have taken to social media to express their opinions on the case and have blamed the NPA entirely. Many call the authority useless and call for top officials to step down.

Mxm all these government departments are useless, NPA and Home Affairs jointly take the cup. You can’t expect anything positive from them.
