Khama Billiat’s Scottland FC Transforms Family’s Life After Viral Video
What started as a heartbreaking viral video of a young boy picking up litter at Rufaro Stadium has turned into a life-changing story, thanks to Khama Billiat’s team, Scottland FC. The boy in the video, Mukudzei Umali, has now been given a fresh start alongside his family, all thanks to the club’s president, Honourable Scott Sakupwanya.
Moved by the video, Sakupwanya — who is also the Member of Parliament for Mabvuku-Tafara — stepped in to sponsor Mukudzei’s education, along with that of his three siblings. The support didn’t stop there.
Mukudzei’s mother, Memory Ndoro, shared how the moment she saw the viral video of her son hurt her deeply.
“I am very happy, I never thought our lives would change for the better after being hurt seeing my child circulating on social media,” Memory Ndoro said.
The family has since received a full scholarship for the four children, a new house, and jobs for both parents. Memory was employed at the Scottland clinic in Mabvuku, while her husband, Brenna Umali — a former Black Rhinos goalkeeper- was offered a coaching role with Scottland’s development side.
Reflecting on their difficult past, Memory recalled how they used to live in a cramped room shared between two families in Mbare.
“I want to thank Honourable Scott Sakupwanya for what he has done, our lives have been changed. We used to stay in Mbare in one room with two families sharing, while dividing it with a curtain. Now my wish is for my children to work hard so that they help others just like what the Honourable has done for us,” Mukudzei’s mother said.
Scottland FC’s leadership says the initiative is part of a broader effort to uplift the communities they serve. Speaking on behalf of the club, Secretary General Fortune Bgwoni said their mission goes beyond football.
“As a club, we are determined to help anyone remember we take our players from the community so we need to help the community, right now we have managed to get birth certificates for the children, take them to school and we will continue to do this whenever we can, we should be a society that helps each other,” Scottland secretary general, Fortune Bgwoni said.
