Rugby Legacy Lives On: Siya Kolisi and Schalk Burger’s Sons Tackle Each Other on the Field [Pic]
The passion for rugby runs deep in the Kolisi and Burger families — and now, the next generation is carrying the torch. Over the weekend, the sons of Springbok legends Siya Kolisi and Schalk Burger went head-to-head in a spirited schoolboy rugby match.
Siya Kolisi and Schalk Burger’s Sons Face Off in Epic School Match
Nicholas Kolisi and Nicol Burger faced off in a fiercely contested Under-11 match between Bishops Diocesan College and SA College High School (SACS) on Saturday, 18 May. Nicol, who plays flank for SACS, and Nicholas, who turns out at lock or loose forward for Bishops, gave it their all on the field.
After the match, Nicol’s grandfather, Schalk Burger Snr, shared a photo of the two muddy but smiling boys, capturing a moment that reminded him of the past. He reflected on how the young rivals echoed their famous fathers; opponents during their playing days, but friends when the final whistle blew.
The post was captioned:

A Viral Moment That Sparked Nostalgia
Speaking to City Press, Burger Snr elaborated on the camaraderie between the two boys. He said the match was physical and intense, but once it was over, their friendship shone through.
“The lads played their hearts out. You can see they’re covered in mud and everything, but off the field there is friendship,” Burger Snr said.
He went on to say that this spirit of healthy rivalry, followed by mutual respect, was something his son Schalk embodied throughout his own career. Win or lose, the elder Burger never hesitated to share a drink and a laugh with Kolisi, and now, their sons are doing the same.
“This is characteristic of how my son Schalk was, too. He never backed down from anything on the field, but afterwards, he wanted to have a drink and be friends. So it’s that tradition that lives on,” he added.
