VICE CHANCELLOR’S OFFICE

Position: Director Business Development and Industrialization (1 Post)

Reporting to: The Pro-Vice Chancellor

Job Summary:

The Director of Business Development and Industrialization is responsible for driving the University’s industrialization and commercialization agenda. This includes initiating, appraising, implementing, and monitoring strategies, policies, and systems that foster innovation, business development, and the transformation of knowledge into marketable goods and services.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and oversee policies and systems for industrialization and business development.

  • Lead the creation of spin-offs, joint ventures, and other income-generating projects.

  • Provide strategic leadership to faculties and departments in business development initiatives.

  • Establish and manage innovation hubs that convert research into commercial outputs.

  • Ensure intellectual property protection and patent registration of innovations.

  • Oversee seminars on industrialization and strategic partnerships.

  • Set performance benchmarks and quality frameworks for innovation hubs and industrial parks.

  • Promote innovation and develop partnerships with public and private sectors, regionally and internationally.

  • Facilitate collaborations with industry for the establishment of industrial hubs and parks.

  • Ensure compliance with national and international quality standards in project implementation.

  • Create and grow revenue streams by commercializing the University’s research and facilities.

  • Identify opportunities to monetize academic outputs.

  • Produce viable business plans including financial appraisals and cash flow projections.

  • Engage university staff to leverage internal capabilities for external business engagements.

  • Collaborate with business development managers in other institutions to pursue joint goals.

  • Liaise with investors and stakeholders on industrialization-related matters.

  • Undertake any other duties as assigned by the Vice Chancellor.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A Master’s Degree in Engineering, Science and Technology, Agribusiness, Commerce, Applied Social Sciences, Business Administration, or related fields.

  • A relevant first degree in similar fields.

  • A PhD is an added advantage.

  • Minimum of five (5) years post-qualification experience, with at least two (2) years at senior management level in a reputable organization.

  • Demonstrated experience in industrialization, commercialization, and intellectual property management.

  • Ability to establish and nurture public-private partnerships.

  • Strong integrity, excellent communication skills, and the ability to multitask effectively.
