Zamalek SC Board Divided Over Pitso Mosimane Appointment as Head Coach

Zamalek SC Board Reportedly Split Over Pitso Mosimane Appointment as Head Coach

Tensions are reportedly brewing within Zamalek SC’s boardroom over the possible appointment of Pitso Mosimane as the club’s next head coach.

While some board members are strongly in favour of bringing the South African tactician on board, others are not convinced he is the right fit for the Egyptian giants.

The division follows Zamalek’s recent decision to part ways with Portuguese coach José Peseiro, who was only appointed in February 2025.

Board Reportedly Divided Over Mosimane’s Appointment

According to Al Sharq News Network, the potential appointment of Mosimane has caused a rift within the Zamalek SC board.

A faction of the leadership is reportedly in favour of hiring the South African legend, citing his celebrated track record across Africa, particularly his successful stint with Al Ahly in Egypt.

However, others are more sceptical. Critics within the board have pointed to Mosimane’s recent underwhelming performances during coaching spells at Al Wahda in the UAE, Abha FC in Saudi Arabia, and Esteghlal FC in Iran. These concerns have reportedly led some members to question whether Mosimane is the right fit for the club at this time.

Despite the internal division, Mosimane remains one of the top candidates under consideration.

Pitso Mosimane Reportedly Names His Price and Terms

Adding to the ongoing discussions, Egyptian journalist Abu Al-Maati Zaki revealed that Mosimane has already outlined his demands for the potential role. Speaking on the Star of the Masses YouTube channel, Zaki stated:

Zamalek contacted Mosimane to coach the team in the coming period, succeeding the Portuguese Jose Peseiro. The South African asked for a salary of $180,000 (approximately R3.2 million) to agree to coach Zamalek, in addition to granting him full authority to manage all the team’s affairs.”

Mosimane’s request for complete control over team matters could be another point of contention within the boardroom, as the club’s top brass deliberate over the next steps.

Decision Expected After Egyptian Cup Final

While discussions are still ongoing, it’s believed that a final decision will only be made after Zamalek’s Egyptian Cup final on 5 June. Until then, the boardroom debate around Mosimane’s potential return to Egyptian football continues to intensify.
