A 39-year-old man from Madokero, Harare, has been left reeling after losing a staggering US$280,000 in a brazen house break-in.
Police Confirm Break-In and Theft of Large Sum
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the incident, which occurred on 30 May 2025.
According to the police, an unknown suspect unlawfully entered the man’s home and stole a small bag containing the money, which had been stored in a wardrobe in the bedroom.
“The ZRP is investigating a case of unlawful entry into premises and theft that occurred in Madokero, Harare, on 30/05/25. A 39-year-old man lost US$280,000.00 in cash after an unknown suspect broke into his house and stole a small bag containing the money, which was in the wardrobe in his bedroom,” the police said in a statement.

This crime shows a rotten system which is deep. In a normal country. A person would bank such money and get interest, however because of the thieving banking system a person would rather keep such huge amount in his wardrobe. Anyway its inside job.
