Harare Couple Ambushed By A Gang Of Armed Robbers Near Kuwadzana Turn-Off

A young couple fell victim to a brutal criminal attack Monday evening near the Kuwadzana junction along the Harare-Bulawayo roadway. The traumatic incident began when their vehicle experienced mechanical failure around 11 PM, forcing them to pull over.

According to preliminary reports, two armed individuals emerged from roadside vegetation shortly after the couple stopped. The male victim, identified as Richard Maravanyika (33), was violently struck with a metal object, rendering him unconscious. The attackers then restrained him using available materials including electrical cables and clothing items.

The female passenger (21) was forcibly removed from the vehicle at knifepoint. Authorities confirm the perpetrators subsequently committed multiple acts of sexual violence against the young woman while her partner remained bound nearby. The gang took turns to assault the woman by the roadside while her partner was bound.

Property Stolen Before Perpetrators Fled

Following the physical assaults, the criminals allegedly robbed both victims of their mobile devices and all available cash before escaping the scene. Emergency services were contacted after the attackers departed.

The couple was then rescued, and the police were alerted so that investigations could take place.

Law Enforcement Launches Investigation

Harare Provincial police representative Inspector Luckmore Chakanza verified that detectives have opened a formal case encompassing both the sexual offences and robbery charges. Investigators are currently pursuing all available leads to identify and apprehend the suspects.
