Gracious Sakupwanya, the wife of Zanu-PF politician and millionaire businessman Scott Sakupwanya, made winter donations to vulnerable communities in Mbare and Chitungwiza. While many praised the gesture, others used the moment to raise uncomfortable questions—from economic dependency to the couple’s past controversies.

Scott Sakupwanya’s Wife Donates Blankets

According to an update shared by Scott Sakupwanya on his verified X account on Thursday, 5 June 2025, his wife visited two charitable organisations earlier that day. Her first stop was the Tose Home for Children Living with Disabilities in Mbare, where she donated 30 blankets. Later, she went to Chitungwiza and handed over 25 blankets to the Albino Charity Organisation, which supports individuals living with albinism.

Mrs Sakupwanya acknowledged that she and her husband aren’t miracle workers, but said small gestures can go a long way in helping others.

“We may not be able to solve every challenge in a single day,” said Mai Sakupwanya during her visit, “but we can all do something to make someone’s day a little brighter, a little warmer.”

Mixed Reactions Online

After the post went live, Zimbabweans flooded the comment section with mixed feelings. Some praised the Sakupwanyas for giving back to the needy. Others shifted the conversation to Gracious Sakupwanya’s appearance, while a few criticised the culture of handouts and urged leaders to create jobs instead. One comment even dragged in the controversial death of Bishop Tapfumanei Masaya, which some have linked to Scott Sakupwanya’s political rise.

Here are some of the comments:

@AmosSanhan94286:

I’m inspired by your way of giving, you don’t give to those who are already making it in life rather you look for the poor and bless them. MAKANYANYA SAMAS🙏🙏🙏

@kakasuri1974:

Such a heartwarming initiative by Mai Sakupwanya! Small acts like these make a huge difference. @alexgraytrust’s insights on community impact remind me how even modest contributions can create lasting value. Beautiful to see this in action!

@VutisaniT:

Bleaching of bodies is everywhere, we are doomed as people.

@LMary7499:

People need jobs, not to be treated as charity cases!

@jaji_july:

And how about Bishop Masaya’s children? You ended their father’s life prematurely; surely you could have easily done/shown this good gesture without killing another child’s father. Rest in peac,e Tapfumanei Masaya.
