The British Embassy in Harare is seeking a dynamic and capable Programme Support Officer (AO Grade) to join its Policy and Programme Team. This full-time, permanent position offers a competitive monthly salary of USD 2,973.83 (subject to statutory deductions) and is open to candidates legally able to live and work in Zimbabwe.

Role Overview
The successful applicant will be at the heart of the Embassy’s efforts to deliver the UK’s “Partnerships for Growth” agenda in Zimbabwe. This will involve contributing to both policy engagement and project delivery across sectors such as health, education, climate, economic development, and trade. The role demands adaptability, a proactive mindset, and the ability to respond to changing priorities while ensuring delivery of long-term goals.

Key Responsibilities
1. Programme Delivery and Management Support

Contribute to programme design and implementation.
-
Manage risk registers, conduct due diligence, and ensure compliance with the FCDO’s Programme Operating Framework (PROF).

Build and maintain productive relationships with implementing partners.
-
Assist in annual and completion reviews and carry out field visit logistics and compliance spot checks.

Maintain accurate records and knowledge management systems.
2. Financial Management
-
Work with stakeholders to develop accurate financial forecasts.
-
Review financial reports from suppliers and partners, checking for discrepancies and value-for-money (VfM) issues.

Ensure procurement and payment processes align with FCDO’s financial regulations.

Act promptly to report and mitigate any suspected fraud.
3. Administrative and Corporate Contribution
-
Support internal operations and events such as the Zimbabwe Development Partner Forum (ZDPF), Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF), and the King’s Birthday Party.

Provide admin assistance to the Development Director and help coordinate team meetings and partner engagements.

Participate actively in wider Embassy activities and committees, such as the Wellbeing Committee and Post Operations Committee.
Essential Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.

At least 5 years of experience in programme or project support roles.

Strong organisational, problem-solving, and multitasking skills.

Understanding of project cycle management.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal.
Desirable Skills and Experience

Sector-specific knowledge in areas like health, education, agriculture, renewable energy, or mining.

Familiarity with FCDO policies and UK government procedures.

Experience with risk management, safeguarding, and compliance practices.
Working Environment and Development
The role is based in Harare and involves working 35 hours per week. The role may also require local travel for project oversight and evaluation.
