Broke and Homeless: Dynamos Pull Out of CAF Confederation as Crisis Deepens

Dynamos Withdraws From CAF Confederation Cup

Crippled by financial challenges and without a certified home ground, Harare giants Dynamos have officially withdrawn from the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup.

Dynamos Withdraws From CAF Confederation Cup

The Glamour Boys had secured a spot in the tournament after winning the Chibuku Super Cup for a second consecutive year under coach Lloyd Chigowe. But despite earning their ticket, the club says it simply cannot afford to take part.

Club board chairman Bernard Marriot confirmed the decision bluntly:

“We’re not going. Without a CAF-approved stadium locally, it’s too expensive to host matches outside the country. It’s a financial nightmare,” Marriot said.

The club released a statement on Friday, expressing regret over the withdrawal. They said a thorough assessment had shown the team wasn’t ready to compete on the continental stage this season.

“….as Dynamos FC, we regret to advise that the club will not be competing in the 2025/25 CAF Confederation Cup. After a thorough evaluation, it has been determined that the club is not yet ready to compete at the continental level this season,” the statement reads.

It’s a major blow for the 1998 CAF Champions League finalists, who were looking to rekindle their former glory. Last season, they took part in the same competition but had to host matches in neighbouring countries due to Zimbabwe’s lack of a CAF-approved venue—a problem that remains unresolved.

Focus Shifts to Poor Domestic Form

Dynamos will now turn their attention to the local league, where they’ve endured a woeful run. After 14 matches, they’ve only managed one win, against Simba Bhora three months ago at Rufaro Stadium.

They face Bikita Minerals at Gibbo Stadium this Saturday, hoping to finally turn things around.

Coach Saul Chaminuka remains hopeful:

“We need to start picking up points and we need to win away and I foresee Bikita Minerals being the unlucky one.”
