Fake PhD Holder Appointed to New ZBC Board Chaired by Mnangagwa’s Niece

The Ministry of Information has named Nanette Silukhuni, a former deputy chairperson of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), to the new board of the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), despite serious questions over her academic qualifications.

Fake PhD Holder Appointed to New ZBC Board

Silukhuni is alleged to hold a fake PhD and has listed a non-existent university on her CV. Investigative platform WeDugUp revealed that she claims to have studied at Hong Kong University, which does not exist, and also holds a doctorate from Aldersgate University, a controversial institution known for questionable credibility.

Despite the allegations, she’s been given a seat at the state broadcaster’s top table as one of 13 board appointments announced in General Notice 1186 of 2025 by Information Ministry Secretary Nick Mangwana. The members, appointed under section 11(13) of the Public Entities Corporate Governance Act, will serve for four years.

The new ZBC board will be chaired by Helliate Rushwaya, President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s niece, with Advocate Tapson Stanley Togarasei Dzvetero named as her deputy. Silukhuni, who now serves as the Ministry of Information’s head of strategic planning and monitoring, is included as a regular board member.

Her appointment comes under additional scrutiny as sources allege she was handpicked for her current ministry role without undergoing formal recruitment procedures.

The other board members include: Chipo Nheta, Dr. Henry Mukono, Charles Munganasa, Precious Charandura, Thandolwenkosi Nkomo, Prof. Sibongile Mpofu, Queen Mpofu, Anion Craig Matambo, Ruvheneko Parirenyatwa and Martin Takawira Kweza.
