ECD teacher accused of sucking blood from pupils in bizarre assault case
A 51-year-old Early Childhood Development (ECD) teacher in Bikita has been arrested and brought before the Masvingo Regional Court on shocking allegations of sucking blood from her young pupils between 20 May and 5 June 2025.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) confirmed the arrest and remand of the accused in a detailed bulletin released on 13 June 2025.
“An Early Childhood Development (ECD) teacher in Bikita, an adult woman aged 51, has been arraigned before the Masvingo Regional Court facing two counts of assault,” stated the NPAZ.
The alleged acts occurred at a primary school in the Chief Budzi area of Bikita. Authorities say the incidents only came to light after a parent noticed unusual injuries on a child’s fingers.
Parent stunned after discovering wounds
The teacher allegedly targeted two children during school hours without the knowledge of their parents or the school staff.
“The matter came to light when one of the children’s parents was bathing their child and noticed some wounds on the fingers,” said the NPAZ.
“The child narrated the ordeal, leading the parent to approach the school for an explanation, and similar reports were received.”
The purpose behind the alleged blood-sucking remains a mystery.
Remanded in custody as investigations continue
The accused has been remanded in custody until 30 June 2025 to allow for further investigations. No plea has been entered yet.
The charges have sparked concern among parents and educators in the region.
“This case highlights the critical importance of child safety and vigilance within educational environments,”
the NPAZ emphasised in the bulletin.
The case has raised alarm over the vetting and monitoring of teachers, especially those entrusted with young children in rural and peri-urban areas.
Authorities have not disclosed the name of the teacher to protect the identities of the children involved.
As of now, the accused remains in custody awaiting further court proceedings. If convicted, she may face serious penalties under Zimbabwean law.
