Wicknell Chivayo Responds to Outrage Over Leaked US$439 Million Cancer Equipment Deal

Controversial Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo has dismissed the public uproar over a leaked document that claims his company, TTM Global Medical Exports (Pty) Ltd, was awarded a US$439 million contract to supply cancer treatment machines without a public tender.

The alleged deal, which surfaced online earlier this week, sparked outrage across Zimbabwe, with citizens and opposition figures questioning the transparency of such a massive health procurement. Critics accused the government of cronyism and corruption, especially given the staggering value of the contract and Chivayo’s political ties.

Responding to the backlash on Wednesday, 18 June 2025, Chivayo took to his verified X (formerly Twitter) account with his signature bravado. He dismissed the outrage as politically motivated noise, claiming the leaked contract was “unsigned” and therefore meaningless.

Bragging about his lifestyle, Chivayo said he was on holiday and shouldn’t be disturbed by “desperate” opposition parties. Without naming anyone directly, he ridiculed his critics for trying to stay relevant.

“Ini ndiri kuno ku HOLIDAY hangu musandi nyangadze please…For a whole group of opposition outfits to team up and make noise about an unsigned FAKE document is an embarrassing desperation for political relevance…Please put some respect to my name, when I said I’m on track to be a BILLIONAIRE by vision 2030 asi maifunga kuti ndino chera MBEVA ndichi tengesa???” he wrote.

He Says Opponents Lack Legal Basics

Chivayo then turned his fire on opposition-aligned lawyers and political commentators, accusing them of failing to understand the law. He argued that since the document in question wasn’t signed, it had no legal standing and shouldn’t be taken seriously.

“Zve politics zvakaramba, but at least try to PRETEND understanding the basics of LAW that an unsigned contract is not worth the paper it’s printed on. I thought lawyers argue FACTS backed by concrete EVIDENCE 🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️ but basa kungo hukura. You are too DESPERATE for content and have nothing else to do than circulating such UNFOUNDED and NONSENSICAL misinformation 🙄🙄🙄” he said

He ended his post by mocking those fuelling the backlash, saying they only seek social media likes and engagement, while he focuses on building wealth.

“I will never stop working hard, moving from strength to strength asi kana mazogara mundi kwanire please gadzirai zvimwe muwane ma likes gara zviya SOCIAL MEDIA 🤳🤳🤳 magara ndimi henyu muno tonga…🤣😂🤣🤸‍♀️🤸‍♀️🤸‍♀️” he added.
