Harare Shuts Down Water Supply After Major Pipe Burst at Warren Control

Harare residents in several suburbs are set to go without water this weekend following a major pipe burst at the city’s key Warren Control water distribution centre.

Harare Announces Major Water Shutdown

The City of Harare has confirmed that water supplies will be temporarily shut off from Friday, 20 June 2025, at 6 PM until Sunday, 22 June 2025, at 6 PM to allow for emergency repairs.

Repairs to multiple damaged pipes underway

Acting Town Clerk, Engineer Phakamile Mabhena Moyo, said in a statement on Wednesday, 18 June, that the 48-hour shutdown will give city engineers time to inspect, clean out, and fix the damaged pipeline. Two additional pipe bursts discovered along the system will also be repaired during the same period.

Which areas are affected?

Suburbs expected to experience water supply disruptions include: Tynwald, Southerton, Eastlea, Hillside, Braeside, Milton Park, and Parirenyatwa Hospital. The Central Business District (CBD) will also be affected.

However, the city assured residents that some western high-density areas will not be affected by the shutdown. These include Glen View, Budiriro, Kuwadzana, and Mufakose.

Residents in affected areas are advised to store water in advance and use it sparingly until the supply is restored.
