A young mother from Mbare is living every parent’s nightmare after a bogus spiritual healer allegedly kidnapped her four-year-old son during what was meant to be a prayer session.

Priscilla Mbombo (22), who lives in Joburg Lines, told police she had been in contact with a self-proclaimed prophet known only as Madzibaba John to seek prayers for her sick child. The two arranged to meet at Tsiga Grounds on the evening of June 1.
When they met around 5 pm, Madzibaba John reportedly instructed Priscilla to go find a red cloth, which he claimed was needed for the “deliverance.” Believing she could trust him, Priscilla left her child in his care.
But when she returned a few minutes later, both the fake prophet and her son were gone.

Search For Missing Boy Continues
Since that day, Priscilla has been desperately trying to locate her child and the man who took him, but all her efforts have been unsuccessful. She has now turned to the police for help.
Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the case.
“Police are investigating a kidnapping case involving a minor child in Mbare. The victim was left in the custody of a self-proclaiming prophet for divine deliverance. The mother has failed to locate the prophet and the baby since June 1, 2025,” said Insp Chakanza.
Authorities are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
