According to prosecution testimony, the victim, Alexandra Jachi, was returning home to Chitungwiza from Highfield when he noticed suspicious vehicles following his Toyota Fortuner. Seeking safety, Jachi drove to Jongwe Corner where the confrontation turned physical.

The senior detective attempted to ward off his attackers by firing a warning shot from his 9mm Taurus service pistol. When this failed to deter them, he shot one assailant in the leg. Undeterred, the attackers overwhelmed Jachi, striking him with an object that rendered him unconscious.

While Jachi lay unconscious, the assailants allegedly stole $140 in cash, his service pistol, and identification documents from his wallet. Bystanders who attempted to intervene were also reportedly assaulted during the incident.
