The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has confirmed the arrest of Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) legislator Patrick Sagandira, who represents Makoni Central in Parliament.

According to an update posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, 20 June 2025, ZACC said Sagandira was taken into custody on allegations of illegally occupying and developing state land—a serious offence under Section 63 of the Land Commission Act.

Authorities believe Sagandira started using and building on government land without following the proper legal process. ZACC said it had solid grounds to act, and officially confirmed the arrest in a brief statement:

“ZACC confirms the arrest of Patrick Sagandira, the Member of Parliament for Makoni Central Constituency, today (20/06/2025), on allegations of unlawfully occupying and developing state land, in violation of Section 63 of the Land Commission Act [Chapter 20:04].”

Not His First Time in Trouble

This isn’t Sagandira’s first encounter with the law. Back in 2023, he was arrested over a case of political violence.

At the time, Sagandira was accused of teaming up with fellow CCC supporters to attack Zanu PF activists in an incident that left some victims hospitalised at Rusape General Hospital.

He later appeared at the Rusape Magistrate’s Court, where he was granted US$500 bail alongside other co-accused, including Rusape councillor Teddy Chipere.

Despite these legal troubles, Sagandira won his parliamentary seat in the August 2023 general elections, securing 9,644 votes to beat Zanu PF’s Shepherd Nyika, who received 8,503 votes.
