Marondera Man (74) Killed by Swarm of Bees
A 74-year-old man from Marondera died on Saturday, 21 June 2025, after being viciously attacked by a swarm of bees in the town’s central business district.

The tragic incident happened near a streetlight pole opposite the Marondera Government Complex, where a beehive had reportedly been left undisturbed. According to eyewitnesses, the bees had been aggressive all morning, stinging anyone who came too close.
As the elderly man passed by, the bees descended on him. He tried to fight them off and called out for help, but the swarm was too overwhelming. People nearby tried to assist, but they were also attacked and had to run for safety.

Help Came Too Late
Emergency services were eventually called. Police officers and officials from the Marondera Municipality arrived and rushed the man to Marondera Hospital, but by then, he was already unconscious and was pronounced dead on arrival.
One of the witnesses, Mr Chikwerengwe Mavishu, who was also stung during the chaos, shared what he saw. He said the man was clearly in distress and had shouted for help, but the bees were too aggressive for anyone to get close.
“I was close when I saw him being attacked, and he called for help. When I tried to assist, I was also attacked and had to call the police. When they arrived, it was too late as he was already unconscious,” he narrated.
Even as the area was being cleared, the ZBC News crew on the scene saw another person being attacked by the same swarm while trying to escape.
