Detective Kedha Faces Jail After Being Found Guilty and Fined Kidnapping Woman

Popular private investigator and social media personality Tafadzwa Chidawa, better known as Detective Kedha, has been convicted of kidnapping a Harare woman during an investigation he was allegedly hired to carry out.

After a full trial before Harare magistrate Tapiwa Banda, Chidawa was last week found guilty of kidnapping but acquitted of impersonation, assault, and cyberbullying charges.

Detective Kedha Fined for Kidnapping Woman

For the kidnapping conviction, he was fined US$200, which he must pay by 14 July 2025 or face possible jail time.

The court heard that on March 5, 2023, Chidawa teamed up with Lazarus James, who was the boyfriend of the victim, Shallom Gandiya, and others to carry out the kidnapping.

The group allegedly grabbed Gandiya, bundled her into a car, and drove her around for five hours before eventually dumping her at Harare Central Police Station.

There, they presented a fake police docket number claiming it was from Gweru. Officers at the station quickly realised the reference number was bogus, and the entire episode led Gandiya to file a police report for being unlawfully detained.

Gandiya is a director at Jaimy Technologies.

ZRP Dismisses Detective Kedha’s ‘Interpol’ Claims

Meanwhile, Zimbabwean police have dismissed separate claims made by Chidawa that he was working with Interpol to conduct investigations in Malawi.

Chidawa had allegedly claimed that he was collaborating with Malawian police and Interpol to track down stolen vehicles—but the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says that’s not true.

ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said Interpol only operates through official police channels, not private investigators. He warned the public not to believe individuals who make such grand, unverified claims, as they can spread confusion and misinformation.
