Marlborough Dog Attack: Injured Schoolboy Transferred for Urgent Treatment, Dogs Seized by SPCA

Former Harare Deputy Mayor Kudzai Kadzombe has given an update following the horrifying dog attack on a Marlborough Primary School pupil, only identified as Denzel.

The young boy was attacked while on his way to school, sparking outrage in the community. Kadzombe, who represented Ward 41 during her time in office, said she had worked with the SPCA to locate and remove any roaming dogs in the area.

In a post shared on the evening of Monday, 23 June 2025, Kadzombe confirmed that the three dogs involved in the attack had been found. She said they weren’t strays, but pets that got out when their owner opened the gate while leaving for work. The dogs — two Boerboels and one Rottweiler — reportedly pounced on Denzel, dragging him along the road. Witnesses in a passing kombi intervened after seeing one of the dogs biting him on the neck.

The Harare City Council and the SPCA have since collected the dogs.

Kadzombe also revealed that Denzel was first taken to Arundel Hospital for emergency care, but due to the seriousness of his injuries, he has now been transferred and admitted to Harare Hospital.

“The dogs have just been picked up by Council development control & SPCA. Denzel was initially attended to at Arundal Hospital and has now been transferred & admitted at Harare Hospital because of the gravity of his wounds,” part of the update reads.

The update sparked strong reactions online, with many people expressing frustration over the lack of accountability. While some welcomed the swift action to remove the dogs, others felt it wasn’t enough and demanded consequences for the owner.

Here are some of the comments:

@Well_ManneredR:

The owner should be sued, not because they voluntarily caused harm to a child, but because the child had to go through that ordeal because they are his dogs. Mwana is probably traumatised and in pain, while nothing happens to the adult except a hospital bill?

@DigeneralNyasha:

Do you know what “NEGLIGENCE” mean? He must face the music; why not cage them? Where was the owner, if they ran out of the gate in his or her presence, to save the kid? Pabuda bag apa

@DannyChax:

On a second thoughts, you may need to delete this. Maybe rewrite in a proper way. This sounds so wrong. It’s like you are sanitising this.

@HillaryMuyambo:

Straying just means not being in the right place, just like those dogs were. And is the boy okay after the attack?
