Kudakwashe Tagwirei Denies Presidential Ambitions, Pledges Loyalty to President Mnangagwa

Businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei has strongly rejected claims that he is eyeing Zimbabwe’s presidency.

He instead declared his unequivocal support for President Emmerson Mnangagwa to remain in power beyond the expiry of his second term in 2028.

Speculation Follows Central Committee Appointment

Kuda Tagwirei’s recent appointment to ZANU PF’s Central Committee, the ruling party’s highest decision-making body outside of Congress, has triggered widespread speculation that he could be laying the groundwork for a future presidential bid.

According to Business Time, some party members have accused him of leveraging his business success and wealth to build political influence and position himself as a potential successor to President Mnangagwa.

Kudakwashe Tagwirei Dismisses Claims as “Foolish”

Speaking in Bulawayo at the 2nd Edition of the Land Tenure Implementation Committee Programme hosted at NUST University, Tagwirei firmly dismissed the presidential ambitions allegations.

“I am a businessman and why would I be looking for something that doesn’t exist? It’s foolish for me to look for something that doesn’t exist. Why waste my energy when there is no vacancy?” he said.

He reiterated that President Mnangagwa would remain in office up to 2030, describing any suggestion of a looming vacancy as pure fantasy.

“There is no vacancy for the presidency and the President is there up to 2030, so anyone who says that, they are foolish in their own thinking because there is no vacancy for the presidency,” Tagwirei declared.

Backing President Mnangagwa’s Extended Leadership

Tagwirei emphasised his loyalty to Mnangagwa and likened himself to a soldier carrying out the President’s mandate.

“I am a soldier, a soldier who has been sent by the very President who is going to be there until 2030 and anyone who thinks there is a vacancy should go and sleep and wake up again because they are dreaming,” he added.
