Martin Charlie Claims Mai Jeremaya Praised Him for Being Better Than Her Husband in Bed

One of the two men accused of gang raping social media personality Mai Jeremaya has denied the charge, insisting their encounter was consensual and transactional.

Martin Charlie told the Harare court on Monday, 30 June 2025, that Mai Jeremaya willingly agreed to have sex with him for a fee and even complimented his performance afterwards, claiming it was better than her husband’s.

Charlie Says Sex Was Agreed at US$20 an Hour

According to Charlie, the encounter began after he picked up Mai Jeremaya in the Harare CBD. He said they went to Joina City where they stopped briefly, and that’s when he learned she was allegedly offering sexual services.

He told the court that after confirming her offer, she told him she charged US$20 per hour, and they agreed to go to Paradise Lodge on Frank Johnson Avenue.

Charlie denied suggestions that the group had planned to attend a photo shoot that day. Instead, he insisted the plan was clear: they were going to the lodge for sex.

When asked about allegations that Mai Jeremaya had been intimidated or coerced, Charlie rejected the idea. He said the mood was relaxed, and everyone was laughing and listening to music in the car.

He also disputed claims that his co-accused, Thabo Dube, was the first to enter the lodge. Charlie told the court that he alone had arranged the encounter and that Dube had no reason to go inside.

Charlie went on to describe the alleged sexual encounter in graphic detail, claiming that Mai Jeremaya initiated much of the activity and appeared to be enjoying it. He said she even asked if he was enjoying it and later thanked him, saying he had performed better than her husband.

Afterwards, he claimed she demanded more money than what was agreed, first US$500, then US$300, but he said he couldn’t pay either amount.

“I then stopped after I was done and she removed the condom, thanking me, saying I had done it better than her husband. She then started demanding more money saying she had given me extra. She said she wanted US$500 and I told her that I didn’t have that kind of money, then she said even US$300 was okay and I still told her that I didn’t have that kind of money.”

Despite this, he said they both took a bath, and he later arranged for a ride to take her home.
