ZANU-PF Responds After Claims Chiwenga Kicked Out Tagwirei From Central Committee Meeting

ZANU-PF’s Director for Information and Publicity, Farai Marapira, has denied explosive claims that controversial businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei was kicked out of a Central Committee meeting by Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga in Harare on Thursday, 3 July 2025.

Chiwenga Accused of Kicking Out Tagwirei From ZANU-PF Meeting

The report, first published by The NewsHawks, suggested drama had unfolded at ZANU-PF’s headquarters during what was meant to be Tagwirei’s first appearance as a Central Committee member. This followed a Politburo endorsement on Wednesday, based on a recommendation by National Political Commissar Munyaradzi Machacha, that Harare Province had resolved to co-opt the fuel tycoon into the powerful structure.

But things reportedly took a dramatic turn.

According to The NewsHawks, a message was sent to their newsroom by a Central Committee member at 1:17 p.m., which read:

“Kuda (Tagwirei) adzingwa na VP from the CC meeting manje manje. Abudiswa izvozvi ne security (Translation: “Kuda has just been kicked out of the meeting by the Vice President. Security escorted him out.”)”

When contacted by NewsHawks for clarification, Marapira appeared cautious and redirected them to the party’s Secretary-General, Obert Mpofu, whose phone was not reachable.

Meanwhile, Tagwirei himself did not respond to messages seeking his side of the story. However, journalists at the venue reportedly confirmed that Tagwirei’s chair remained empty throughout the session, and his convoy was seen leaving the ZANU-PF headquarters shortly after the meeting began.

Zanu-PF Reacts to News Chiwenga Kicked Out Tagwirei From Meeting

The alleged ejection triggered a wave of online reactions, with many pointing to growing cracks within the ruling party’s elite.

Prominent lawyer and activist Advocate Fadzayi Mahere took to X (formerly Twitter) to demand answers from Marapira. She said:

🔸Dear @marapira_farai, Is this true? Was Kuda Tagwirei ejected from your meeting? Please update us on your factional circus? Did you get a car? Now that you’ve sold your already bumbling party for a few cars, will you be able to comply with the Constitution? What a mess. We need new leaders.🇿🇼

But Marapira laughed off the claims, brushing them aside with a cheeky response:

“Dear @advocatemahere, It’s not true. But I know you wish it was😂😂😂
